  • The Holiday Season has started for us...

Homemade spruce wreath is hung with such care and a ginger bread house was built with nobody there.....

Well,  not exactly,  Joshua and I had fun building this natural gingerbread house from Trader's Joes.  We loved the fact that the candy and sugar people were colored using veg. juice versus Red Dye #40  and other artificial colorants.  Speaking of artificial colorants....

Today's edition of the New York times has an article about bees that were drinking the syrup from a maraschino cherry factory and sure enough the honey turned red.  Upon testing the honey it was full of....yep  Red Dye #40.  Scary isn't it?!

  • Things & Thanksgiving

I just found out that one of my photos of the farm is going to be on the cover of the NOFANY Winter Newsletter.  NOFANY is  the Northeast Organic Farming Association of New York.  We have signed the NOFANY pledge and are working towards organic certification.  I'm very excited that our farm will be on the cover.

For the last two issues,  I have supplied them with several of my photos for the interior pages.  This is our first cover.

I've been working part-time for my favorite herbalist  Susun Weed.   I just designed a website for her and have a few more changes here and there until I make it live.  It's been a very fun project and I'm learning so much.

I also volunteered to create our local farmers market website.  The Amenia Farmers Market   is the only indoor Winter market in our area.  I am loving the opportunity to sell my Sun Powered Herbal products.  I actually have a local business coming by the market this week to see my products,  she wants to put them in her store!  I just realized that I have 18 different soaps that I make.  I'm working on my online store but it's taking a little longer than I  like.

Thanksgiving is next week and we have so much to be thankful for.  I give thanks each day.  Joshua is very thankful for his turkey girls.  These sweet turkeys show folks that turkeys have feelings too.  Joshua does not like that so many folks tend to focus so much on eating a beautiful sweet bird versus being thankful,  which he says is what "Thanksgiving" is really about!

Joshua wants us to remember the "true" meaning of Thanksgiving.

A few shots of the critters today enjoying the warm November sun.

    .....ran.....

    .......admired dad's wood pile....

    .......discovered a dead bee......

and loved the way the sinking sun lit up the hillside.

  • The Worlds Biggest Pumpkin

What weighs over 1,800 lbs and is a pale orange color, it has approximately 800 seeds and would make a lot of pumpkin pies??

    The world's largest pumpkin!!

    The

    This pumpkin weighed 1,725 lbs!

The sun was in his eyes but he did think it was pretty cool to sit next to the world's largest pumpkin!

This one was over 1,600 lbs.

The whole garden was spectacular in color yesterday.

    The rose garden was splendid!

Some of our highlights from the day....   Joshua was in character all day.  He was a T-Rex.  One of the librarians at the library picked up on his dinosaur movements and walked by us once as a T-Rex himself.  Loved it!!!  I love the staff at NYBG!  I have written before how much they love to engage Joshua.  Of course seeing and touching the gigantic pumpkins....amazing! The rose garden was in full bloom.  The conversations in the car on the way to the garden and the way home.  Deep conversations about life, God, Trees, the Universe, reincarnation, The Great Wall in China, dinosaurs, dinosaurs getting minerals from plants, and the list goes on and on.
